I'm trying to imagine how I could be any more excited about this.

Felicia Day is going to star in RED, Syfy's reimagining of Little Red Riding Hood, with werewolves! Excuse me while I die of excitement. That sentence contains a fusion of so much awesome I'm amazed it doesn't implode under the weight of its own genius. OMG! I wonder if they will be channeling any Angela Carter in adapting. Probably not. I'm guessing they'll go more urban fantasy than Gothic nightmare. Whatever. I'm so there. All the best things are happening in 2011!!!!!

OK. So in my defense my internet ran out at the weekend. Yes, I have pay as you go internet. It's kind of pathetic, but it's all I can afford right now. But dudes, did you hear?

HBO PICKED UP A GAME OF THRONES! (above artwork from Dorian Gray BD). This is possibly the most awesome news of all time. If there's one thing I love more than sci-fi, it's fantasy, and although Legend Of The Seeker is extremely fun, there are very few other shows playing with epic fantasy at the moment and I can't imagine anything more delicious than a dark, dramatic, nasty, HBO-style twist on one of the greatest fantasy book series of all time! Yes! I'm VERY EXCITED. The cast is like some bizarre dream come true. A lot of the news reports I've seen covering the pickup are describing it as The Sopranos but with swords and dragons, which works for me as a selling angle.

In other news, Tamara Adama is my hero and the Cara/Kahlan awesomeness just went exponential )

Second day was way more awesome. I met Michelle Forbes, who was super SUPER lovely. I was crazy nervous and I think she could tell... well, I was kind of shaking, so she couldn't have not noticed, but whatever. I didn't faint or anything, so I'm calling it a win. :) My highlight of the whole weekend though was hanging in the Slaughtered Lamb pub listening to Mark Charan Newton and suddenly noticing I was standing shoulder to shoulder with China Mieville and Joe Abercrombie. Such awesome guys. I was too frightened to say hi (although I did get Mr Abercrombie to sign my book later), but it was a very cool moment. Such talented guys who spoke with such eloquence and passion for the craft. The authors made the event for me in the end.

Tom Baker was nuts, Gareth David-Lloyd (of Torchwood) was hysterical even though I don't watch the show and watching Dave Gibbons do a drawing masterclass was heaven.

Good times. I think if I'd paid for my ticket I might have been a bit disappointed - not masses of stalls, dodgy organisation, very weird location, smelly crowds, but I had a really nice time in the end, and I think if they make it bigger and better for next year, I'd consider going again.

Yay. Also, a few more pics if you're interested: Clicky
